| A month since I put my feet on home soil and it feels like only yesterday that I got back. Time has flown by. I have been at home and then again I haven’t spent any time at home. Being back in Goa and amidst the family, means working around a lot of schedules. It’s also that time of the year when a lot of partying happens- weddings, baptisms, birthdays, engagements. The smallest event calls for a celebration. Every goan celebration means good food and dancing and I’ve got HAPPY FEET :) At the end of last night I also had very tired feet :P
The amateur theatre group that I’ve been part of since 1994 has now completed twenty long years. We were invited to put up a play for the delegates of a conference. ‘On the Holy trail’ was written and produced by our director and founder member Ms. Isabel Santa Rita Vaz. It feels awesome to be part of my theatre group again. A number of new faces around, but we all have two things in common…we love acting and we love Goa with all its traditions and customs. It was also a time to meet old Mustard Seeds who flock to Goa for Christmas with the family. It’s great be back in green, green Goa :)
On the 3rd was a cousin’s birthday. He entered the country sometime end of Nov and chose to spend his birthday in Goa as his mum is here. I was at an aunt’s place when I heard about his trip to Goa and since he was spending his birthday with family after years, we decided to throw a small party for him. His birthday coincides with the feast of our patron saint for which the whole of Goa has a holiday. 3rd morning saw me wake up at six to bake the birthday cake. A fun day no doubt for all of us. Thanks to my cousin, Lisa, I also got to play the piano after ten years :)
On the 8th of Dec I went to the Museum of Christian Art. No, I am not so religious that I need to visit such places. The curator is known to me and a workshop was being held for kids. I volunteered to help. Brought back loads of memories of doing craft at school :P
It feels good to be back in goa and even better to be back home. :) | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| And it was my second trip home within the month. Got back on 3rd Jan and zoomed off on 25th. Never had so much fun in Goa ever before, as compared to my last two holidays at home. Christmas meant two weeks off and I partied most of the time. Danced away to glory at a wedding, danced the night (or rather the wee hours of the morning) on Christmas and danced a whole lot more on other occasions. To my mum's amazement I enjoyed eating rice, curry and fish every afternoon (something I never enjoyed in Goa all the time I grew up there). Of course I mostly ate shellfish which was the only reason I enjoyed every lunch. My mouth is already watering at the thought of prawns, squids and mussels... Went and visited a number of relatives too, not becasue I had to, but because I wanted to. Couldn't fit everyone on my 'want' list so left a couple of them for my next visit. Met a whole lot of new people and enjoyed every moment with them. The only disappointment was despite staying so close to the beach I got to go there only at midnight and thus didn't get a chance to have the bhel.I Also got news that a friend's father-in-law (who was very fond of me) had a stroke and I couldn't go to see him. I only hoped that he'd keep well till I got a chance to see him as I too am very fond of him.
On my second trip home I reached Margao bus-stand at a nice time of 9:00 am. To not travel and see other cities, I jumped off the bus and took the shuttle to Panjim. Luckily I didn't have to touch the capital city as I got to know that my sis and friends had already left for a picnic. I gladly got off the bus close to the picnic spot and had to wait for twenty minutes before I got picked up. I spent that entire day at the beach and most of my time was spent in the water. In the evening, I managed to get some time to go to the beach near my house and have some bhel too. Reached home only at 7:30 pm. Was nicely pampered by mom with hot soup and a yummy dinner, after which I promptly dozed off. 27th morning had a scheduled trip to my old school. Went and met a few of the teachers who taught me more than ten years ago. I couldn't do anything in the evening as it was already taken up by a friend's wedding (my reason for going home). The wedding turned out to be really nice and pleasant. There was no wasteful expenditure and it was a nice reunion of a few XIIth std batchmates as I hadn't met any of them since our XIIth which was way back in 1997. 28th saw me going to church in the morning and chilling at home the rest of the day. Walked to the beach later in the evening just to have 'bhel'. 29th was the day I had to leave so I always make sure that I don't have too many odd jobs that would tire me out. The heat in Goa was as it is unbearable. And yes I completed the few odd jobs and also managed a visit (short one) to see Colin's mum. I didn't know how they would react to seeing me, but I was most pleasantly surprised and that helped me relax, as they were happy to see me. It was just as always. I was lucky as I got to met his dad too. He does look older, but the smile on his face was worth the trip :) | comments: Leave a comment |
